It’s no secret that Apple’s “big event” was today, and in my opinion, it did not disappoint. (I will definitely be getting the iPhone 6S)
Apple released a new iPad, Apple TV, TV operating system and of course, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.
Some of the new features that I saw during the event today, that were also listed on TechCrunch.com are listed below.
Apple TV
-Built in App Store, including specialized Apple TV applications
-Powered by a 64-bit A8 processor (a step down from the new iPhone processor, but a big upgrade from Apple TV’s previous single-core A5 processor)
-Supports 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. (Bluetooth means you won’t need a direct line of sight between the remote and the Apple TV).
-Still has the HDMI and Ethernet connection that the previous version had
-Launches in late October
-Comes in two options: a 32GB for $149 or 64GB for $199
-Apple launched a brand new operating system for Apple TV … tvOS. Allowing for companies to create third party applications (sports, gaming, shopping, etc.)
-Comes with Siri (the demonstration seemed really cool at the event!)
-The Apple TV remote has a touch surface, making it easier to navigate through the system
-The remote is rechargeable and lasts up to three months per charge
IPad Pro
-12.9-inch display making it easier for you to take advantage of the recently announced split-screen multitasking option (you can run two apps side-by-side)
-Front and rear camera (8MP iSight camera)
-Two speakers at the top and the bottom (four total)
-New A9X processor, Apple third generation 64-bit chip with 2GB of memory and faster flash storage (Apple said it is faster than “80% of the portable PCs that have shipped in the last 12 months” and “70% faster than the A8 chip used in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus”)
-6.9 mm thick (compared to the iPad Air thickness of 6.1mm)
-Weighs 1.57lb
-Available in November: 32GB for $799, 64GB for $949 and 128GB for $1,079 (the 128GB comes with WiFi and cellular connection)
-Apple also introduced a new keyboard (costs $169) and a stylus, or “Apple Pencil” (costs $99 and I must say, the Apple Pencil seemed pretty cool, they showed a demo of using the Apple Pencil for Microsoft Office applications)
iPhone 6S and 6S Plus
-“3D Touch” technology that makes the phone better at detecting the pressure you apply when you touch the screen, different pressures activating different features (not just Apple apps use 3D Touch: Instagram, Facebook and many others have integrated this feature as well)
-12MP camera (double the megapixels of the previous iPhone camera) that shoots 4K video (essentially a better camera and better video)
-Front facing camera has been upgraded to a 5-megapixel camera with a new front-facing flash feature
-64-bit A9 chip
-Updated Touch ID technology (making it faster than before)
-Supports WiFi up to 866 mbps, with 300 mbps LTE
-Pre-orders start on Sept. 12, devices launch on Sept. 25
-6S starts at $199 and 6S Plus starts at $299 for a two-year contract, however, people can now join an “Apple upgrade plan” that allows users to upgrade to a new iPhone each year for a monthly rate (starting at $32/month) that includes Apple Care and is “unlocked” so you can use any wireless carrier
-Stronger glass for the display
-Supports 23 LTE bands up to 300 mbps and WiFi up to 866mbps
